How to use Custom Image Styles in KoalaWriter and KoalaImages
Custom image styles allow you to customize the AI images that are created by KoalaWriter and KoalaChat!
We offer many built-in styles such as illustrations, watercolors, and photos, but if you are looking for further customization then this is for you.
Note: For an even higher level of customization we will be adding custom fine-tuned models too!
After you've created a style (see below how to do that), you can easily use it in KoalaImages and KoalaWriter.
Simply choose your custom image style in the Image Style dropdown.
To create a new image style, go to KoalaWriter and choose "Auto" or "Images" for the AI Images & YouTube Videos settings.
This will display the Image Style option:
Next, click the Edit button and then click Create New Style.
Please read the below section for tips on creating your custom image style!
Please make sure to use English for all fields. The AI image model will understand English best and it uses fewer tokens, meaning it is less likely any part of the prompt will get cut-off.
Now, let's go field by field:
This is the most important field and is used to instruct the image model about what type of image you are trying to create.
Here are some examples from our built-in styles:
professional illustration: Used by our Illustration image style
professional high definition stock photo: Used by our Photo image style
isometric style illustration: Used by our Isometric image style
watercolor painting: Used by our Watercolor image style
This should give you an idea of the type of input you should give for this field.
It is important to keep this short and simple, shoot for 1-7 words!
For example, if you wanted to create a custom "Line Art" style then you could simply use line art drawing as your style.
This is just used to reference your custom style when using KoalaChat and the API.
For example, if the handle is line-art then you would use the custom-line-art style in KoalaChat or the API to use that style.
This field cannot be edited after the style has been created.
These are used to further modify the style of the image. They are inserted at the end of the prompt we create for the image model.
Here are some examples from our built-in styles:
colored, realistic: Used by our Illustration image style
35mm photograph, film, bokeh, professional, 4k, highly detailed: Used by our Photo image style
vibrant, beautiful, crisp, detailed, ultra detailed, intricate: Used by our Isometric image style
soft blending, translucent hues: Used by our Watercolor image style
You can put several styles here, but don't go crazy and add 12 or more. If you add too much text here, it can cause parts of your prompt to get cut-off. This is because there is a 77 token limit for the entire prompt. Just add the most important ones.
For example, if you wanted to create a custom "black and white line art" style then you could simply use black and white as your Extra Styles.
You can use this field to try and influence the style and content that the image model should not use. However, please note that the image model does not always follow these instructions well.
Here are some examples from our built-in styles:
photo, photograph, ugly, text, words, poster: Used by our Illustration image style
drawing, painting, crayon, sketch, graphite, impressionist, noisy, blurry, soft: Used by our Photo image style
deformed, mutated, ugly, disfigured, blur, blurry, noise, noisy, realistic, photographic: Used by our Isometric image style
photo, photograph, ugly, text, words, poster: Used by our Watercolor image style
There is a limit of 77 tokens.
Please check out this awesome guide by AITuts that has some great examples of prompts that you can use when creating a custom image style. Most of our built-in styles use modified versions of their examples, so a big thank you to them!
For example, if you like the Vaporwave style from that tutorial, you could easily use that inside Koala with these settings:
Base Style: vaporwave synthwave style
Extra Styles: cyberpunk, neon, vibes, stunningly beautiful, crisp, detailed, sleek, ultramodern, high contrast, cinematic composition
Negative Prompt: illustration, painting, crayon, graphite, abstract, glitch, deformed, mutated, ugly, disfigured
Here is how that would look inside the form:
Then you can use that inside KoalaChat:
To edit a custom image style that you created, go to KoalaWriter and choose "Auto" or "Images" for the AI Images & YouTube Videos settings.
